Default CKP Sensor problem (P0335)

I have a 2000 civic dx.

My CEL recently came on so i replaced my CKP sensor (P0335) and it drove fine for a couple of days, then the CEL came back on. It still reads P0335. I've erased the code a few times, and it's still the same one. When i unplug the battery for a while, and plug it back in, it will run find again for a few days, then the CEL returns.

Any suggestions??

do i need to do the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure? is that dealer only that does that? would it still spit out the same code?

Check the two CKP sensor wires for an intermittent short or open. Also inspect the wire terminals in the distributor and ECU connectors.

also try checking the lower timing gear because it has two fins that stick out. and thats what the sensors pick up. could be full of dirt, oil, grime. u should of seen it when u changed out the ckp sensor.

i saw the gear but didn't make notice of whether it was dirty or not.

i took it to a mechanic and he said that because it was an after market sensor from Kregan (O'Reily) then it might be that it was just a crappy one, and i should get a certified honda sensor. any possibility in that?

also i was poking around and i tested the sensor wires and they seemed to be okay, but i wasn't able to get inside the distributor. i got to outter casing off but there was another casing in the way w/ a lil wheel type deal in the way and i didn't know how to remove it. as far as looks go, it was all very clean.

i checked all other wires as best i could to see if any were damaged and it all looked fine.

this is really ticking me off! i'm trying to do this on a budget.

Curious to know if you ever fixed and if so, what ended up being the solution? Having the same problem and don't want to invest all the effort to replace the Crank Pos. sensor only to have the same code pop right back up. Thanks.

Yeah I've been coming across this post a bunch in my hunt for a solution. Did you ever make any progress? I've done new cap/rotor, ICM, CKP sensor. Wires and plugs are new as well. Checked resistance on the coil and it seems ok.

CKP sensor is at the crank pulley. Crank position is in the distributor. Do you have a check engine light on? If its P0355 then you've replaced the wrong component.
