i have a 92 cx hatch with a b20 in it right now it has a jdm b16 trans in it but iv been thinkin about makin it awd. i read a poste about an awd accord and the guy got flamed. b4 neone gets mad at me just think of a white hatch burnin all 4 wheels in the pit next to a 5.0..... it would b fun and im doin it all myself so should cost a ton of money so gimme ideas plz

Do more research. This be done many times.

 

It might be just as easy or easier to mount a another engine in the back... I've seen that done before and it can work well but its a lot of custom.

 

There are several ways to do this, but it's very difficult or impossible to retain your B-series.

The easiest is to use the d16a6 and drivetrain from a 88-91 AWD Civic wagon. Then turbo. You will have to do some fairly extensive fabrication to mount the differential between the rear wheels, and figure out where to run the driveshaft. Regardless, you're almost certainly rebuilding the exhaust tunnel or losing some ground clearance. You may be able to use the rear subframe from a Civic wagon to mount the diff, but I don't know. That would probably require you to use EF rear suspension as well.

You could use stuff from the 92-95 Rtsi, but we didn't get those in the US, so you'll have a hard time actually finding those parts.

It's theoretically possible to use the transmission from a 5-speed 97-01 CRV and be able to stay with a B-series engine. However, I've heard a lot of people say that the CRV transmission is longer and won't fit between the Civic framerails. I can't verify that for sure. You could probably make it work with extensive modification of the passenger framerail.

Either way, you should probably use the Civic differential. It's a gear type rather than a clutch type, and is generally considered to be stronger than the CRV diff.

So, your best bet is probably to go d16a6 and turbo. Don't even think about starting this project unless you have a welder.

And search. There are a few other AWD build threads, including a badarse AWD DelSol setup for rally. It's not a common build, but there have been a few. Everyone goes about it a different way.
