I have a 00 SI and I have an issue I don't know how to troubleshoot. I am not sure what happened but rolling down the highway and civic pulls up so I though what the hell lets run em. I downshift hit the gas and pull way. When my car hits vtec in 4th the car makes really loud popping sound and my check engine light comes on the car starts sputtering. So I pull over turn the car off open the hood don't see anything wrong. Turn the car back on still has check engine light. So I slowly get the car home no more the 3k rpms. I come back out after a few hours and decide to go to find out what happen. Turn the car on no more check engine light. So i take it for a drive and get on it again NO vtec. As soon as it hits 5400 I lose power and I don't hear the normal vtec sound. I tried a few more pulls to see what happens all the sudden bam vtec but it sputters and sounds like ****. Anyone have any idea what would of happened to cause this and how to fix it.

 

Have you checked your oil level?

 

Yes I checked the oil and to see and it was at its normal level. I had just recently changed the oil a few weeks prior to this issue.
