So I was at my local shop and found this block...
I was talking with the owner of my local import tuner and he had just finished doing a b swap and he had the guys old engine sitting there. I went to look at it and the inscribing on the block says D15B. No number. What's that mean??? I've never seen one like it.
No, but seriously. I know it's a jdm d15b for sure. It was imported from tigermotors a while back and he had it swapped in with an auto tranny. My real question is what is this motor worth realistically?? I'm in a very advantageous to get this motor with a standard Si tranny for very cheap. Both of which o would be tearing down and rebuilding if I get them. Did the d15bs come with vtec heads? I don't know too much about the rest of the heads other than my d16z6.
The valve cover (which looks to be the original) says Honda 16valve on it, but no indication of vtec on the cover. How involved is a mini me swap if I decided to swap my z6 head onto it?

What? Is that even remotely relevant? I see you posted in about 3 other threads aside from mine but idk if theirs are even close to an intelligent comment either...
Hyper miling is pretty much mpg performance. The thing about the small liter d15b is what they call a 3 stage vtec. And vtec as we know is just another word for hungry hippo.(moar air and fuel) With the 3 stage its a bit more economical. 50+ mpg with a turbo conversion. The answer is there I just don't give in so easily.

being too short, or...mysterious, etc. leads to people reporting stuff as trolling. i know you aren't necessarily trying to do that, but all i'm saying is we get the report(s), come in, see it's you doing that, and then wasted that time for nothing.
so, try to be a little less witty in the technical sub-forums or wait until people get to know you, or something, haha.

if you have a working z6 there would be no point to go through all the trouble of putting this motor in unless you wanted to be able to say you have a japanese motor. and look for the vtec solenoid there is a d15b non-vtec as well. and at that point putting your head onto it would result in about the same exact thing you have now.

If I swap in the d15b it will be built and boosted to all hell. I'll be looking at between 18 and 22 psi. Built bottom to top and I'll be rebuilding the tranny as well cause it grinds if you're really getting on it, from what I've been told.
i guess honda was lazy with their block stamping over in japan lol
i had a jdm d15b that we pulled out of a friends eg, and i eventually put it in a crx. it was a non vtec version, but it ran amazing. when i pulled the head off to do a mini me with it, i noticed that the head had alot of dish to it, and the pistons actually stuck up past the surface of the block at tdc. they didnt protrude a whole lot, but they certainly werent flush or below the surface, and i said f**k it and went ahead an put the y8 head on it with a 3 layer metal head gasket from advance auto lol. it ran amazing for what it was. the crx got totaled, and it went in a 91 4dr with a dx trans and stock exhaust. running on a p28 ecu. ran 15.3 (forget the mph) on ebay coilovers on stock struts and stock 13" steelies lol.
kinda miss it. it was a fun slap together daily driver.

and your right about honda being lazy, lol. I have a zc sohc vtec and there is about 10 different zc's that I know of.
Well theres a good chance I'll be picking it up for around a hundrecks and the si tranny for the same price. So I don't see why not and I'll be building it with the shop owner. So I'm getting great help and good prices for the parts as well. I don't why not make a nice turbo build and then sell it to start my k or j swap lolol
I was only refering to the "d15b vtec" sorry for the misunderstanding but I just assumed that there really isnt anyone that would bother importing the nonvtec d15b...

Chewy sorry for the snap last night. But spitting three words together like that and I looked at them and was like :headscratch: lol. Didn't really make sense to me and I figured you were another troll (I know good and well when I see one, having multiple forum accounts).
D15's are becoming popular boost engines.. I would build it on the side, then throw a snail on it. That would be a fun car to drive!
Well I figured it would be a good idea to start there. The motor itself would be a good swap for me. I'm getting the swap for a fairly good price. Ill be taking a long time to build it all up and do it right. I'll be going for a smaller-mid size turbo (spooling around 3.5k to 4k) and then I'll be looking to push between 275 and 350 horsepower- more than enough power to walk past any camaro, mustang, charger, STi or Evo in the city. Think that would do it lol?

he wants to build it right so he doesn't have to keep hassling with swapping motors or rebuilding them.
do it right the first time and you'll never have a complaint

by and chance what rods, bearings, and head work are you planning on doing?
