Laid off!
Ugh these ****ers hired me for 4 weeks to build these oil skimmers then "didnt have as much work as they anticipated" all while I had an interview for another job that would have probably been more long term. Sad part is I was one of the few people that that could TIG everyone else just knew had to MIG. Since I was new I was at the bottom of the totem pole. So fustrating.....

If you take a risk on a higher paying, possibly less stable job, be prepared. Always see if they can agree to some working contract. If you *need* to maintain cashflow - such in the case of not having unemployment benifits - you may want to go with the lesser but more stable job. Sucks it happened to you though.

It happens man. Might be hiring out here in the next few months. It's kind of like 1st grade welding in a super fast paced production environment. Its a good company to work for though.
I was in the same boat a few years back. Got hired in August welding large stainless vessels for ethanol production, was laid off from october to december, and then again in May. They said they would call me to let me know what was up and I even checked in with them on a biweekly basis.
Got a call from one of the guys I worked with and was told to start looking for another job. Unprofessional on their part if you ask me. Though I'm glad it happened because I'm back in school after realizing I don't want to be like all the lifers that were there and that welding is best as a hobby for me.

Oh well. Such is life and the welding industry.
