97 Civic DX Hatchback Trailer Hitch
Can anyone recommend a hitch model? I want a hitch that requires no drilling and is not too difficult to install. I prefer a REESE model. Auto Zone would not sell me a hitch claiming that REESE does not make a hitch for my Civic model.
I want to install a hitch, so I'm still looking for a good model that somebody else has installed. The frame on the Hatchback is structurally the same as other Civic models. The Honda recommendation is bogus.
It doesn't really have anything to do with the frame, it has to do with the car being too light to stop a trailer effectively. You try towing a trailer with something that light in anything less than perfect conditions and it suddenly becomes very hard to stop, the wheels will lock and the car just slides around being pushed by the trailer, i've done it before (wasn't a civic, was a short wheelbase 4wd tacoma, towing a civic on a tow dolly) and its not fun.
Again, I need a hitch recommendation. I appreciate the advice. I have a small trailer that I pull to the dump every week-end. I am going to install a hitch. I just need a model that will fit (No drilling, bolt-on preferred).
Again, Honda does not recommend installing a trailor hitch for a reason. Read and understand why it is clearly stated. Unbelievable. and then ppl wonder why things happen.....

This is the 2nd thread like this, someone in the other thread says he has a reese hitch. Have you called them?
I towed my friends car with my old car, it was not fun, but doable as long as the weight isn't to much.
The honda reccomondation isn't bugus

If you search through the forum lots of folks will tell you how much they are towing with hatchback's. As long as the load is not heavy there's no danger.
There is NOT a hitch made for the Hatch. I had to use the hitch for a same model standard Civic. Trust me on this that I looked long and hard. I ended up using the hitch for the basic Civic series, REESE # 77025. To make the hitch fit I used (2) brackets on each side and lined up with the second hole on the hitch attachment points. The brackets I used were UNISTRUT P1036. I inserted a big washer above the (2) brackets to get things to line up. I used (4) ½” X 2.5” 8X strength bolts. I covered the muffler support tangs with radiator hose to prevent rattling. This install works really well. No noise, perfect fit.
