98 civic HX need some help for a B18C type r swap
I have a 98 civic HX, I wanna put a B18C Type R spec 98 in it and i have been researching this stuff for a while and cant really find any info on this at all. Im also in Iraq so im alittle ways from my car as well which doesnt help me too much and my friends too. So any help would be greatly appreciated. My first question is whether my car is obd2a or obd2b and which one is the engine?
Question no. 2: Are the mounts that come with the engine going to work in my car?
Question no. 3 (which im prolly just being dumb and didnt even think about until today when i was looking at some stuff about the transmission): Will i have to get a Hydraulic tranny to cable car conversion kit for it?
Sorry i have a lot of dumb sounding questions this is going to be my first swap and i wanna make sure i have everything in order before i start on it. I dont wanna get half way done and realize im missing something or buy something i actually didnt need at all.

you need 99-00 civic si motor mounts.the car itself is a obd2a and if the motor is a 98 its obd2a but it dont really matter, the hydro tranny will work. cable ones sre for for old schools like efs and da's.
alright thanks now I know that i just need the Si mounts, and everything else is good, I was wondering about the axles, will they fit or will i need to find different ones? i kinda forgot about those until now.
you will need to get a ex harness from a 96-98 civic or idk if you can use the hx harness never relly messed around with an hx i know there vtec but thts about it. axles will fit shift linkage will fit... you should get a jumper harness for the ecu from obd2a to obd1.....
As far as i know both my car and the B18C spec 98+ type R's are both obd2 but i was under the impression that the type r's ecu might be a obd2b is the only thing i would be worried about.
Jdm b18cr is obd1 but you can convert to obd2 by swapping in obd2 crank sensor and Distributer. Usdm b18c5 are obd2 motor and it should just swap right in with 99-00 civic si driver side motor mount, integra tranny mount, the rear mount should leave as is. Your harness should be fine with add wires for knock, vtc, vtc pressure sensors.
so for the b18cr i need to get a harness and a jumper harness for the ecu as well then i should be good, along with mounts as well.

All '96 - '98 Civics are OBD2A (HXs were kind of an oddball and remained OBD2A even for '99 - '00)
JDM ITR engines are OBD2A, however, they lack a seconday O2 sensor and CKF snesor, If you want to run a USDM OBD2A P73 you can use the CKF trick to bypass the CKF sensor and add in the seconday O2 sensor.
'92+ civics all use a hydraulic clutch, when you do your swap simply unbolt the slave cylinder from the transmission and unbolt the bracket the holds the flex line to the top of the transmission. DO NOT disconnect the line at the slave cylinder, simply swing slave cylinder out of the way, line still attached. When you put the swap in simply reinstall, D and B-series slave cylinders are the same, this way there is no bleeding required.

alright thanks alot that makes much more sense, cuz it would make sense for honda to only use OBD2A for USDM and keep the JDM's all as OBD1. but Im just gonna run the ECU that comes with it, im not worried about the inspections at all, i dont have them from where im from at all.
I'm assuming that should have read wouldn't make sense. The reality is that OBD2 JDM ECUs are setup a lot more like an OBD1 ECU with OBD2A plugs (very few JDM ECUs are OBD2B, the only one I can think of right off is the CTR), they don't look for things like a CKF sensor, secondary O2 sensor or fuel tank pressure sensor.
Im sure that they dont have a secondary O2 sensor or the same kinda inspections as us so the fuel tank pressure and what not might not be incorporated but idk why theres no CKF thats just odd. So i'd prolly be better off just running it with a USDM p73 instead of the JDM one?
if your going through all the trouble of putting a b-series in your hx DO NOT USE STOCK SI mounts. They are **** and won't last long. Go buy a set of Avid or Hasport mounts and do it right.
thats what i was gonna do, get some hasport ones, cuz i know they're better and i dont wanna have any problems later on just cuz i felt like saving a few dollars now.
Was this ever completed? I knhow its an old thread can any one tell me how to do the 5 to 4 wire o2 sensor conversion on the Hx harness
