HELP: Car high idle, Backfire, No power!!
so i drive a turbo y8, and on my way to work my car popped a engine check light, started idling around 2000 rpm, and had a major power loss, then the check engine light went off and started driving fine again...10 minutes later did the same thing and started backfiring, and had no power at all even in first gear, the weird thing is the car idled and sounded fine but had no power at all...turned off the car and it went away!!what could be going on??
thas the thing, the cell code disappears before i try and jump it to figure out the code...and i dont think it could be the mechanical timing because it runs find again once the check engine light disappears...any other suggestions?? im at work and scared to drive home after experiencing this haha
This tip for OBDI ECUs can be found in the CEL sticky at the top:
Tip: In some cases, for 5th generation Civics (92-95) (OBDI), the CEL may turn on while driving, but if the engine is turned off, the CEL and CEL code will be lost. The workaround to allow recovery of the code when this happens is to safely pull to the side of the road and leave the engine running while you jump the service connector.

sound like you have something shorting out. this happened to me first about a little over a month ago, the CEL came on and the car had no power then all the sudden the light went out and it ran fine and didn't do it for another week.......then it came on again, did the same thing but worse and luckily i made it to work, shut the car off and it wouldn't start again.......turns out i look under the hood and what happened was i used to run a motorola 2.5 bar map sensor which has to be wired into the stock harness.......well the tape come off the solder and the wires touched and actually blew my chip out, luckily it wasn't the map sensor since i run an omni 4 bar now
that's my suggestion
that's my suggestion
yea i was thinkin of doin that...i forgot to mention i have a 97 civic with a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness, is this the same matter??
yea i run the same configuration only my car is a 2000 which is obd2b, yours is obd2a, but your car wouldn't run if it didn't have the correct conversion harness. i found that out the hard way when i first got into hondas and doing the obd1 conversion
