Types of paint you can use on a DIY paint job?
I'm looking into painting my 01 Civic coupe without professional help, and I'm finding the steps and everything to strip it, paint it, etc... but I cannot find any information on what kind of paints I can use (besides urethane), and I do not know where to purchase any. Same thing goes for primer too, or if any will do.
Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure what suppliers are in your area, but here we have paint world, which might be a national change, im not too sure, but you can call them up, and maybe do a single stage, its less chemicals, and only one product to spray, and any questions that you need answered could be by the jobbers themselves
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO single stage
if u do all the prep work correctly why just spray a crappy single stage on it....gonna come out way worse if you've never sprayed before and you can really go back and fix trouble areas.
go to a automotive paint store get there economy base/clear..... most paints/cans have teh mix ratio's on the cans...google and u tube...ask the guys in the shop...buy a cheap $15 habor frieght gun.....trust me.

if you are doing this urself, check to see what will be cheaper, single stage or two stage, I have sprayed both many a times. i will totally disagree with "fibercation" on NOOOOOOOOOOOOO single stage. it is easy to spray and easy to fix mistakes in it. where two stage if u have an issue with ur base coat u have to respray the whole panel to fix it... also two stage is harder to match panel to panel.
what it comes down to ultimately for most is price...

Not only a single stage, but a metallic, never got around to wetsand and buff it, the owner of the golf cart wasnt too concerned, but 3 years of abuse and the paint is still holding up fine.
As for getting it to lay out properly, PRACTICE, do some test panels, and just keep tuning the gun until you get it right.
i was told u cant wetsand and buff metallic single stages...truth behind that?? sort of makes since seems like the metallics would get kinda srewed up
Thanks for the responses guys. I wasn't clear by what I meant 'type' of paint, and i meant does it have to be Urethane, or Acrylic, Oil, etc... Thank you.

Honestly I am not too sure about that, I just never buffed that cart, no need to it was a beach/offroad cruiser, lifted 6 inches with bigger tires and all that fun stuff.
