VSS wiring driving me CRAZY! please help
I've looked at so many write-ups and how-to's and none of them have the same diagrams. My car is a 1991 EF hatch STD. I've swapped a DC Integra LS cluster and everything's working except the speedo. I put in a VSS from a 92-95 civic and ran the three wires into the back of the cluster, I got signal wire going to orange (back of cluster) and to yellow/red (EF dash harness), power to black/yellow (13.7 volts with car running) and ground. Im not totally sure I have the signal to ECU connected to the right wire. Like I said, it seems every write-up and diagram says something different. The yellow/red wire has 4.8 volts on it, and I know that the VSS needs pulses from 0v to 5v for it to work, and I have checked signal wire (orange) voltage while driving the car around my school parking lot and I got 0.8v to 1v. Basically I need to know how to correctly wire this **** up so I can have a speedo again. Thanks!
I know the diagram, but my pin#16 for my pigtail is green/red for E-brake indicator. I have it hooked up that way and everything works besides speedo.
How does the ECU know how fast Im going? I have 12v with ignition on at the signal wire. Does that mean its hooked up wrong?

black wire on the vss plug is ground.
middle wire on the vss plug is 12v power.
yellow/white wire on the plug goes to the signal wire on the back of the cluster.

check the plug at the vss. last time i did this cluster swap i got the plug from a junk yard and i didnt notice it was all corroded inside the plug and the spedo was going all crazy. swaped out the plug with a good one and it worked.
Thats my next plan is to get another vss...I've been messing with this thing for 3 days now lol im almost to the point of putting my old cluster back in and saying f.ck it!
make sure the vss is actually pushed in all the way. the electronic ones are shorter than the mechanical ones, and some times wont mesh with the gear correctly. when i only tapped into the ecu wire, and it sends the signal both ways, and my speedo works fine.
would you mind giving me a diagram of exactly how you wired yours? I know what you mean about getting the gear to go down in there, i had a hell of a time doing it but it finally slid in. My cars running OBD1 and I checked a pinout to locate the vss signal, I just run a wire from the orange #6 to that wire on the ECU, as well as tieing in the signal from vss to the orange? Im trying to get my wiring 100% correct before I go get another vss
i have a wire from yel/white on the vss T'd into the orange wire at the cluster and to the yel/wht wire at the stock cluster plug. keep in mind there are 2 yel/wht wires, the other is for fuel. it's been some time but i'm pretty sure that's what the color was. without pulling the cluster cover off i couldn't tell you with 100% certainty though. now even if you had that hooked up wrong, your speedo should still work even if the ecu isn't getting the signal. so as was said previous either the vss plug itself is muffed, the vss is bad, or the cluster is bad.
I just wonder that vss is "interchangeable" or you should use the same as original ? and should vss also feedback the signal to influence the transmission ?
