Default EF Wiring Gurus HELP!!!

Ok i got an 89 Si hatchback. Has an LSVTEC. Ok i put in a GSR cluster , i heard the vtec wont work if the speedo isnt working. I had to convert my **** from cable drivin to an electronic VSS.

Ok quesiton is where do hte vss wires go???
my vss wires go 1st wire (black) 2nd(black/yellow stripe) 3rd (blue/white stripe)

i know the blue one goes to B11 on cluster but what about the otehr ones??

And i also heard there is a wire from cluster to ECu , is this true , if so what color is it???

Thanks in Advance guys

dunno shzt about EF's but i know about Honda electrical systems!

any black/yellow is switched Ignition ie +12v when key is on

and black is ground/negative/chassis.

makes sense too doesnt it?

it has to have power, ground and the blue white is the signal

i guess!!!!

t..

dunno about the wire to teh ECU,

actually, it might be a Yel/Red wire to the ECU?

(it is on my OBD0) set-up...

HTH,

Yea it is a red/yellow wire... Thanks tinkerbell it makes sense now... The only problem i have is I have heard that the pulse being sent back to the ECU is 5vdc... How does this work if you get a 12 volt feed line?? Just wondering but i'm not too worried about it.. Peace

And to B20zvtecek you will be running that blue wire to B11 on the GSR cluster and to B16 in the ECU if you didn't know that already... I'm sure you did tho... Good Luck

the 12v DC feed gets changed into a 5v AC Sine wave... (IIRC!)

i think by an intergrated circut...

Cool that's again tinkerbell.... Yea the VSS has it integrated into cuz i check that... I got a wiring diagram from some dude on here that did the cluster swap before and it was totally wrong so don't listen to it... I hooked up the cluster last night and everything runs perfect.. I tapped the power off A17 (12+) and A18 (ground) for the VSS... I also realized that it isn't pin B11 on the cluster... it's B6... You'll have to "T" the signal wire back to the ECU from the cluster and VSS... Latez...

Get a wiring diagram for a 92-95 Civic and follow the wires for the VSS.. That's what I did when I had to wire up my car for my H22... But .. I don't have a cluster, so.. not sure how that's going to work... Basically the ecu is getting the readings from the VSS instead of from the cluster...

I know someone else who installed a GSR cluster.. What he ended up doing was he kept the cable speedo.. So.. he stripped the speedo from the old cluster and modified the GSR cluster to fit the cable speedo.. Seems more work than it's worth.

Yea that does seem like a lot of work... For your car you should just be able to "T" the VSS output signal... Run one line to the ECU for it's reference and one line to the cluster.... I really don't even need to run a line to the ECU on my friend's CRX cuz I chipped his ECU.... Don't need it for VTEC and there is no speed limiter.... yay... We had to chip it cuz he was hitting the speed limiter at the end of the track...

You need to tap the power wire atleast off of the ECU, there are some sensor voltage pins that are 5V coming out of the ECU. MAP and TPS for example use 5v if I remember right. I would think the VSS would not work right on a 12V source.

copy that!

A transmission mounted VSS is similar to a 5-volt reference sensor. One wire is a ground, one wire is a 5-volt reference, and one wire produces a square wave pattern that increases its frequency with the vehicles speed.

sorry JDMspecEG6!

my bad, i should have double checked (seems my recall isnt perfect...)

thanks Slurp56

No it's cool... The voltage is changed internally in the electronic VSS... On my friend's CRX I tapped off of pin A17 for the (12v+) and A18 for the the ground.... Then i ran the signal wire to the GSR cluster which is then "T"ed into the ECU as well.... Thanks for the help...
