Oil consumption help
Well i've been burning oil and yes I know our cars tend to burn oil but mine's a little bit more than norm. I was thinking of the Supra PCV mod but is there a downside? I'm not running any boost. Oil catch can another choice?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I recently did an oil change, 5quarts of mobile 1 5w30 with honda filter. I've put few miles on it and it's now below the middle on the dipstick. I'm not sure if the 5quarts was supposed to fill the whole dipstick but not its below the midline. I have roughly about 200,xxx no smoke im aware of
Just keep an eye on it, check it every few days or so. All the x's combined on the dipstick equal one quart, so use that as a gauge. Im guessing you have an ap1. They are known to "eat" a little oil. 1 quart every 2000 miles or so is acceptable, maybe a little more with your mileage. If you have no other reason to suspect your engine is unhealthy I wouldn't worry about it. Also, imo mobil 1 is not the best choice for the f20c. Some cars consume it more than other brands of oil. If you are still worried about it when it comes time for your next oil change switch it up and try something else. I wouldn't change your pcv system, it probably won't help. Just make sure your pcv valve is good, I usually change mine with ever other oil change. Good Luck.
For higher mileage you can use conventional oil like Mobil 1 clean 5000 it helps with the burn off instead of synthetic. And go with maybe 10W40 or even if it is really bad go with 15w40 diesel oil I know diesel oil will clean better because they have more detergents. I don't think 15W40 will hurt the engine with tight clearances but ask here to find out too.

I don't know how you go about your oil changes, but I'm pretty thorough (read: ****) with mine, and I need to refill with almost 5.5 qts. on an oil change with filter. So, you may be closer to normal than you think.
Good luck.
Hey Folks. Good to be back on the forum.
My experience has shown poor results using Mobil1 with honda VTEC motors. Used oil analysis showed that there was excessive wear. The wear was corrected by swithcing to Pennzoil platinum. I have found that Mobil1 reacts poorly to high rpm use (shearing) and very poorly to heat (Forced induction).
my .02 But please bear in mind that it's backed by much experience, and some cold science.
Additionally over-filling can pull oil through the PCV.
Good luck.

Mobil 1 never touches my engine. I did once because I had to, then burned 1qt in 3k miles. I'm on 7k of Pennzoil platinum and not even half a quarts burned. Redline, Amsoil, Pennzoil, Eneos all great options
Mobile 1 is not so great in the S2000, you will find that it burns up easily on high revving engines. Switch to another brand oil and I bet you notice a huge improvement.

I recently switched from Mobil1 synthetic to AMSOIL 10w30. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed any significant improvements, i.e. I still have to add a half a quart every 3,000 miles or so.
I doubt this matters, but I also recently upgraded valve spring retainers/cotters to AP2, got a valve adjustment and replaced the PCV valve. My car is an early 2003 model (assembled in 2002). I think the next thing I'm gonna try is upgrading to an AP2 valve cover and PCV valve... see if that helps cut down on consumption.

This is true. I've always used castrol. I tried the moblie 1 cause everyone seemed to like it, but my car didn't, it seemed as though my car "DRANK" the mobile1.
Take everbody's suggestions of oil brands with a grain of salt. There is no consensus here. Just check it regularly. Also, note that track days with high rpm's (or even street driving with high rpm's) will burn your oil much quicker.
Try valvoline maxlife synthetic blend or full synthetic 10w-30. these are great burnoff oils. they are in the thicker 30 range but have fairly low noack numbers <--lower better for burnoff.
and m1 oils are hit or miss in engines. they can burn off quicker than normal or burn the same or less.
