That just sounds like a bad idea. Making your own shim...

Do what you want, but i love my motor too much to risk that.

If I recall correctly, that's a Federal Mogul company and they are an oem supplier. An OEM one from Honda would probably be the same price or less and it's known to be top quality.

And what's wrong with grinding your own washer? As long as you take the burrs off and get it good and clean, it should be fine.

Ummmm I love my motor too, and I trust my work more than anyone elses, and so far my engine has held together...and also being a Y8 which everyone claims blow up real easy, but mine is still running as strong as ever

Making your own shim is bad only if you don't have confidence in yourself and you rush it....also I'm a mechanic and engine builder so if shimming wasn't safe I wouldn't recommend it...also it does is make the spring stiffer as if you put a stiffer spring in it......trust me its safe

Port and shim it to be safe but there are people who have made 400hp with stock d16z6 oil pumps (turbod16.com). Im building a my Rt4wd wagon and thats want Im gonna do. Aftermarket oil pumps have had some quality and finish issues - hit and miss results.
