D16z6 with 2 dipsticks...
Just bought a d16z6 block for a good deal. I looked at it at home and realized it has two dipsticks. One where it's supposed to be. And one where the d16yxs are located. Which from what I read, means it has the d16yx oil pump. I don't know who's the dumbass who set that up.. Let's hope it doesn't have the y7/8 crank in it also...
So my question is, should I get a z6 oil pump? Or is it not a big deal to worry about? I plan on boosting this in the near future. And I don't know if I should worry about the oil pressure and this issue. I also found out the two pumps are near identical other than the dipstick. So I'm mostly just focusing on the factor of the two dipsticks

I guess someone thought it would be a good idea to double check their oil lol. I'll upload a pic when I get home later today.
So is it a bad idea to boost with 2 dipsticks lol?

Both crank and oil pump aren't as good as the Z6.
The Y8 pump puts out about 30% less cfm - you can verify this in the shop manual.
The Y8 crank has one oil hole per journal while the Z6 crank has 2 oil holes per journal.

And to the other response about dipsticks having no effect on turbos. I read something about the oil pressure with turbos and why I should be concerned about the dipstick. But there's no sense I can make of that. Now that's besides the point since I'll be getting a new one.
And I still intend on posting pictures when I can for amusement

No **** it only has one purpose lol. It still has to hold in the pressure though. I don't know why what I read said that about the dipstick and that it could be a problem. I just read it on this forum or d series so I had to ask

It would give ya options if your future plan includes running a turbo manifold that would make it hard impossible to check your oil.
If you have a good OEM y8 oil pump get it ported and that should work no need to buy another pump, unless damaged.
As for the crank if you are not build a 300bhp+ setup the y8 crank will work if you have a port y8 pump.

Yeah I thought about that. I'll just have to wait and figure it out. I just don't like the thought of having two. And I haven't even had time to check the crank yet.
Here's the picture for laughs. Two dipsticks for one dipshit

Just tell them its twin dip lol
But yea looks like a y pump on a z6.
For those that are fighting the z6 has better oiling over the y motors. Case and point.

Yeah. I suppose this means the oil pump goes with the oil pan? I never thought much of that when I saw it was a y pan. Wasn't worried though. I only paid $47 for the short block

Not sure how important the bolts for the oil pump part. I have the absolute worst vocabulary memory. But yeah, half the oil pan studs were bolts. So I'm assuming a couple of them were from there.
The good news is I have a z6 crank
