i was looking around my engine bay, i have a 90 crx si w/ ZC dohc swap, i noticed a wire loom coming from backside of radiator fan and had a green cylinder and had a black rectangle box with ring terminal and another wire with seperate ring terminal and one frayed wire end also.
does anyone know if this should be attached to anything, like grounding points or is it a relay or something?? any help would be cool, thanks

You have two sets of fans in the crx.
One on the driver side one on the passenger side.
One controls ac and the other controls the fan for cooling.
If you follow that harness back towards the passenger side if might go back through the firewall near your ac lines.
If it does not then that one is the main fan.

the one that i showed in the pic goes directly into the back of the fan on the drivers side near the a/c compressor & some lines around it that look to be a/c oriented lines.
the fan on pass. side i saw a wire going in a loom towards passenger side up to area by underhood fusebox.
i went out to check if they functioned or not, i ran my car over five minutes & reversed out of driveway and just went back in and while it was idling i looked at both fans and neither one was moving, and i turned car off and then waited and did'nt see them move or make a sound, ?? so is this bad ?? does it mean they don't function? or would i have to drive the car more like on the road cause i had my hood open and i just backed out of driveway and back in and idled it only not drove it long.
it seems like i would of noticed this by now but i remember my moms 1990 accord made all these sounds after turning the car off like fans kicked in and were cooling things, but mine has no sound at all ??
any tips on what to do next ? thanks

you can test the fan by jumping it to your battery. The fan normally takes like 10 mins to come one depending on the outside temp. Let the car get up to temperature and then just let it idle and hang around and listen for it. The fan relay may have gone bad.

ok, i drove the car pretty hard around for like 10-12 minutes, then i parked and let it run for about 7 minutes and did'nt see any fans moving, then i turned the ignition just where the battery light is on but engine is shut off and waited for like 10 minutes or more hanging around and did'nt hear anything or see any of the fans moving ??
is this not normal or something to worry about? i mean can it make my engine overheat or anything ??
its run fine for a while and i think its been this same way, i even just drove about 4 hours from dallas to austin and i'm in austin and i'm leaving back to dallas tomorrow morning and thats why i'm just looking over my vehicle and checking it out.
so what do you think i should do next or check to see if something is disconnected or needing replacing to make the fan work ? any ideas ? or don't worry about it

yes i would absolutely worry about it. if it's particularly hot and you're sitting in traffic not moving the engine will likely start to overheat. when you're driving the airflow coming through the front of the car is sufficient to cool the engine down so it doesn't matter that the fan isn't working at that point in time.
if you can't make sense of the wiring because it's so hacked then you may need to run your own basic 12v relay utilizing the stock fan switch on the back of the block. this would be worst case scenario though if you are unable to get the stock fan wiring back in order. and do check that the fan switch on the back of the block is functioning just in case. once the engine is warmed up you should see continuity between the 2 terminals.

thanks for the info,
i had a mechanic friend of mine troubleshooting why my A/C does'nt work a while ago and i have a feeling that he maybe detached some of these wires while troubleshooting, cause i remember he was doing something with the a/c condensor and the wire that goes from the underhood fusebox and best thing would be for me to try and contact him and ask him or show him in person to get my fans working again cause he might of thought i could do without them for a while but i'm in texas and its hot as hell around July & August so i don't want to take a risk of ruining or overheating my engine so i should figure this out.

thanks for confirming that, it all makes sense now cause first i was just overlooking my engine bay & noticed that loose wire and also a metal bracket near battery with nothing attached to it, so i made this post and another seperate post asking what the metal bracket was and after getting answers from all of you guys on here it turns out both have to do with the A/C system.
i was just making sure that i was'nt missing something, but i have'nt had A/C since about 2004 and so at least i know i don't need them (right now at least)
at least i'll know when the mechanic friend of mine comes back to troubleshoot the rest of my A/C and i'll point it out to him making sure he connects all of that stuff properly.
only thing that puzzles me is how i never hear a fan come on or see it running, cause now i'm worried a little about overheating the engine. i realise one fan is for the A/C and one i think cools the radiator, well i'm more concerned about the one that cools the radiator, but i'm about to do a search on that so i can see the whole wiring diagram for the radiator fan and so i can check all the parts on the circuit and make sure its all good and see if i can get the fan to work.

I had never heard my fan come on before it normally isnt running unless you actually need the extra airflow like when sitting in traffic on a hot day. You can test the fan by connecting it to a 12V car battery though.

ok, i understand, thats why i did'nt hear it i guess, so if all i got to do is hook the fan to the battery to test if it works then i want to do that, but i don't really understand how to do it exactly, ........... would you mind explaining in detail what part of the fan i would attach to the battery, and attach to which battery terminal and how etc... ?? i just want to make sure i'm doing it right but it would be good cause then i'll know if it works or not and make me feel better.

the fan plug has a power and ground pin in it. place a jumper wire from the positive on the fan plug to the positive on your battery. Do the same for the ground wire. If it spins then the fan is all good.
