That would depend on your setup and performance goals..Need more info for a better answer..Just in general, no 2.5 is not too small. Some people run FI on stock exhaust.

The way I see it is, If people are going to run twenty-some lbs of boost at the track and run a 3" downpipe, no cat, and a 3" exhaust. Then running 8-9 lbs on the street with a 2.5" downpipe, 2.5" cat and 2.5" exhaust is fine. I think the reason most people tell you to get a 3" is because it will give you slightly better spool up and HP but if you don't plan on boosting real high, I personally feel that you don't need it. Plus it's loud.
