if i was going to take the route of building my d series it an hx so its the v-tec-type E or whatever bs that is but im wondering what can be done to it such as swapping the head or block out ?, my friend said i can run a ls block and my hx head and make a ls/vtec just wondering if this is correct? or any ideas people who know about these would have

you can pull the vtec-e valvetrain out of the head and swap regular vtec internals in. cam, rockers, etc. Swap the intake and exhaust and you essentially have a D16Y8.

 

no you cannot use the D16y5 head on a B18 block. you need a b series (b16xx, b18c1 b18c5, etc.) head to mate to the ls block.

 

The HX was a good motor. It has a roller cam, and the biggest valves of any D-Series motor.

The gearing is what kills the performance. You'll never make it out of 3rd gear, in a race -- that's how tall the gearing is...

The 'hot' setup used to be -- swap out the HX tranny for an EX tranny.

It'll be a totally different experience!

 

yeah im thinking of just getting a catback exhaust a new intake manifold and a cold air setup just for now and getting some coilovers and some dope wheels then wanna buy a b series and build it for boost
