Default J1 transmission Q's

Hey all. I have some quick questions about my J1 trans.

1) it chatters in neutral WITHOUT pressing the clutch in. WHat's wrong? I assume bearings? ANy idea which ones?

2)At freeway speeds above 55mph the trans whirs/chatters which is obviously bearings, but which ones?

3) Will an oem hydro gsr LSD fit right into the trans? if not, what needs to be done?

Forgive me for trying to pinpoint which bearings are bad, but the bearing kits are expensive!

Thanks for all your time, Derek.

Thanks for all your time, Derek.

It is most likely the mainshaft input bearing but I would change the rest while you have it apart. The GSR LSD will not fit in the J1 but you can use the aftermarket B16 helical LSD.
