95 Civic without cruise control, brake lights don't work.
Hey guys, I have a 95 civic hatch. The car has no cruise control. My brake lights aren't working. All of the bulbs in the rear are brand new. Here's the issue. My brake light switch is for a car without cruise control, and it only has two male connectors on it. My wiring harness has four female connectors for a cruise control switch. My car has no controls for cruise control, it's a dx which I am pretty sure doesn't even have an option for cruise. The only thing I can think of is that the wiring harness was replaced before I bought the car. I want to know if I buy a brake light switch for cruise control, will it work? Would I need anything for it to work? I don't know if I would need a cruise control module or something? Help would be much appreciated.
well the brake light switch for cruise has 4 wires, as no cruise has 2. easy way to do this is make a jumper wire between the 2 terminals on the brake light switch. if it lights up its your switch
also chekc your fuses.

the White/Green and Green/White wires are for the brake lights.
Grey and LtGreen are for CC. Make sure the first 2 are the ones plugged into your brake switch.

Ok, I'll try the jumper wire, but the problem is that the plug and the switch don't match so even if my switch was good, it wouldn't matter because I can't plug anything into it. What I need to know, is if I get a new switch that the plug will work with, do I need to have a cruise control module for it to work?

ron j is right. the brake switch is just an on off function, it doesnt matter what happens in the other wires they wont go to anything if you dont have cruise.

Just think though: You're that much closer to retrofitting cruise control.
Just out of curiosity, did he replace the little stopper thats in the pedal as well? I know this is for the reverse condition where the brakelights dont turn off and the cruise control is inop.
Haha yeah, but I have a few bigger problems to worry about than retrofitting cruise control. lol
And no, didn't replace the stopper, but I just needed to find out if I needed a cruise control module to have a functioning brake light switch.
