Hey guys,

My friend has an ('03?) civic, base model. (Manual locks)....

They have had a ton of problems with this car with the ignition/door locks.. The ignition got so bad they had it replaced, but now they can't even lock their doors.

From what I've gathered, replacing the lock cylinder should take care of the problem as far as being able to use their doors again.

I have a couple of questions:

a) If I get part number for the year as appropriate, will she have to get a new key? Or are they the same?
b) Does anyone have a link to a DIY? I presume it shouldn't be too hard to replace these?c) Would I be just as well off getting a junkyard lock cylinder? Or do they all good bad on these?

I'm usually gone with my head stuck in the FI forum (I'm an EG guy) so I appreciate the help

A. If the ignition key no longer matches the door lock cylinders, you'll have to replace them or have the tumblers replaced so they match the ignition key.

B. No, they're not hard to replace. Remove the door panel. (see photo (a), but ignore the power lock connector since you don't have them) Remove the nuts holding the handle on. Behind the cylinder, on the inside of the door, is a clip holding it in place. (see other photo) It looks like a bent piece of coat-hanger. Pull down on it to remove it, then pull the handle up and out. (like you're opening the door.)

C. That would be the least expensive route. Just make sure they have keys for the door locks.
