What tranny do i have?
I have a b18b1 in my eg hatch.. i bought the motor and the guy said it was a b16 tranny. Is there a code or something on the tranny? if so, where is it located??
thanks
thanks
on d series trannies, theres a series of numbers and letters cast into the tranny above the fill plug. Im not sure about b series but i dont see why not, if no one verifies i can go look at our torn up ls tranny in the shed..you would also have to look up the numbers for each tranny online..or im sure theres a post on this site.
Look for a VIN tag, and/or for the 3-character transmission code on the serial number sticker. The information in this PDF is fairly accurate: http://www.jdmcars.com/tech/admin/bseries_tranny.pdf
Since most hydraulic-clutch B18 transmissions used the same code, they're very difficult to distinguish without opening them up to count teeth (unless the VIN tag is still attached in the case of later model years). B16 transmissions had different codes from the B18 models IIRC.
One thing that they don't note is that the S4C transmission code was also used for the '99-00 Civic Si non-LSD B16A transmission in addition to the LSD B16B transmission.

Here's a pretty easy way to tell:
-Find a stretch of highway where you can get up to 80mph safely
-Once at 80 mph look at your tach
-If your tach is reading around 3200k your transmission is from a LS, if your tach is sitting at 4k then GSR, 4500 then B16, higher than 4800 ITR. This is assuming you have a factory transmission, not some freak trans with mfactory (or similar) gears.

I've ridden/rode (ridden sounds odd) in plenty of dc integra's and ls swapped cars and they have all been between 2800-3300 rpms, that is what I'm basing my post off of, however I haven't been in a car with an ITR trans/swap.
