Default Adding factory keyless remote. What is needed?

So, I've been working on my 98 hatch. I added the factory power windows and door locks. I got the floor harness from Honda and so far things are working. I want to know what else I need so I can use the factory keyless remote. Anyone know???

I have stock keyless entry and have aftermarket. I can understand the radio having the alarm feature but you don't need it for the keyless entry, idt.

I think you need the radio for alarm and keyless since on 96-98 civic, the whole system is built into the radio while in 99-00 was separate or something. Can't remember correctly though

Ah, I have a 2000. This would explain my confusion.

99 - 00 conversions FTW!

yeah.. its already converted to the 99-00 dash. But, I don't think there was anything in there that had to do with the power door locks.

Correct '99 - '00 had a lock box in the driver's door.

You can relocate the factory stereo either under the dash or in the trunk to have factory keyless, IIRC Metra makes a piggyback harness that takes most of the wiring out of the equation.

That lock box is giving me trouble manually. You have to pull the handle halfway out for the lock to even move from each position. A pin gets in the way of the lock but when you pull the handle, it changes the position of the lock slider and it works. It seems designed but it can't be...

When I converted everything in my hatch to power widows and doors I got two full sets of doors. One of them had a blue box that bolts into the drivers side door. I know it was from a 99-00 because they were EBP Si doors. If I remember right it says its a door lock module. My door locks won't work without that plugged in. Is that what would control the remote door locks??

Sorry i'm just a little confused too. If you don't have the factory stereo can you still have the factory keyless entry? And if so, how do you program the fob?

^. The lock box is what controls both doors. Like mine, I was tinkering with it; when the driver door would be stuck in lock, I'd hit the unlock button. The passen. side would unlock but not my door. When the door saw mine wouldn't open, it re locked the passen. door. In the 99-00, it seems everything is controlled from that box. So it seems you don't need to worry about your stereo.

96-98 Civics had the lock control box in the drivers door, if you don't believe me just check on www.hondapartsdeals.com and try to find it in a 99-00

99-00 it is located near the hood release inside the car.. but if you are running a DX and upgraded to power windows/locks from a 99-00 Civic.. well then good luck, since the dash harness doesn't contain the connector for the lock control box.. Believe me, I am currently at this stage.. all I have to do is remove the dash and swap the harness over to an Ex/Si and the lock control box will plug right in.

Ugh.. ya I've been reading and searching for the last little while. Came across this thread that had a good diagram. Also had some other good info.
