built d16z6. high compression. wanna switch to turbo. i know they make 2 different stage 2 cams, one for turbo, one for n/a. i own the n/a crower 2, would i be ok using that with a turbo? the duration and lift are not that different between the two but id like to get a second opinion.

LOL sell me the N/A and buy a Turbo cam lol. Anyways I have the same plans, stage-2 n/a for now and boost later. Maybe you might have to do something about CR.

Btw what's your CR and after the cam upgrade, was the gain noticeable with n/a? Sorry for the thread jack

 

according to a compression calculator online im at about 13.89:1 which i dont think is right but what do i know.

and as far as i know about it making a difference. yes, it does.

 

N/A cams are the best for turbo, most turbo cams are actually not all that great for a turbo motor. An N/A cam will give you a much better mid range torque and power level. As far as C.R. goes, unless that block is sleeved, and you don't mind running low boost, then ya, lower the C.R. I have seen some really good numbers out of high C.R./boost motors though.

 

my plans are to get a CR to about 10:1 and boost that but im not sure how to tell exactly what my CR is. honestly i think that online compression calculator is bogus. theres no way im at 13.89:1 right now. also i just bought a del sol with a nonvtec d15 so im thinking about a boosted mini me

 

also i wanna be able to run it on pump gas. cant do that if i boost the CR i have now

 

no 10:1 would be the max compression ration i would run on boost.

 

thats the idea, i dont plan on pushing more than 10-12lbs

 

I also have heard that an NA cam works better for boost.. Im going stage 1 on my B20t after some headwork..but curious to se how ur build goes..

 

Do you guys even think its worth building a D16? I also have a D16 with ram air, exhaust, high flow cat, and headers and dont seem to be getting much more power. Any suggestions?

 

If you're a mechanic and know how to do 90% of the work, yes definitely , if you're like me and can barely change oil and install a CAI , I'd go with a B18c/turbo , the costs will be pretty close.

 

also you wont get too much hp increase with bolt ons. you neeed to do internal motor work and/or turbo on a d-series.

 

absolutely need internal work to make real power on any d or b series. Bolt on's make a little difference, but not much.
