Default How loose should throttle cable be?

So i noticed the other day that my throttle cable on my 97 accord was kind of loose so I tightened it and now my rpms sometimes get stuck at 1500 and my mph needles dont really reflect the speed Im going. Theres a little slack on the cable but do you guys think I may have tightened it too much? Should I also try adjusting the idle speed screw in order to compensate for the change?

There should be 10-12mm of deflection in the throttle cable. If you have an issue with your throttle after adjusting the cable. I would loosen the cable back to the way it was. You should not have to adjust the idle speed screw.
