Default Mini-me swap using D15B2?

I have a stupid question about the mini-me swap. I've been reading this walk through of it here and I'm confused on one thing.

The walk throughs I've seen reference a D15B7 with a D16Z6/Y8 head. Is the D15B7 the only D15 block I can use, or could I mate the head to my D15B2 (Civic/CRX DX engine)? I have a D15B2 in my CRX and a bare D15B2 block sitting in my house and wanted to use it, but just wanted to make sure ALL D15 blocks would work before proceeding to spend monies on water pumps, head gaskets, having the block bored and hot tanked etc etc

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

From what I read.....

Any D blocks will work with any D heads.

Just remember to pull out the oil jet in the stock D block.

not the 8v d series motors, but you can check by looking at the pistons, if its got 4 valve reliefs on each piston your good

Ok cool. I got this bare block and crank for free, so I planned on building it back together and since it needs a head, figured why not go Mini-me? I should be able to get a head on the cheap too.

Not true, as I was educated that my D16a8 block (DOHC ZC) is not usable by SOHC D series engines

True, the ZC (DOHC) is not one of them. I was just talking about US domestic engines, not JDM's...

I considered doing a ZC swap, and a whole D16Z6 swap, but figured building this bare block from scratch using gimme parts, junk yard parts, and new when needed (timing belts, water pump, gaskets etc) would be cheaper and a better learning experience.

I used a 16v D15B2 head on an 8v D15B8 motor and a D16y8 head on a D15B2. The only difference I saw between the 8v and the 16v was there were 2 less vavles per cylinder... the cast is the same, it just looks like someone took one intake and one exhaust valve out and filled in the hole were the valve would be. The bottom ends are all the same, just different motor mounts for the 88-91 and the 92-95.
