i just bought a 98 honda civic EX and i believe that i have the 1.6L vtec motor. but when i pop the hood it doesnt say vtec on the engine head. like i said i am very green to the honda world. just kinda wondering if i do in fact have a vtec. thanks for the help.

 

If its the stock engine, you have a D16Y8. It's a D series, 4 cylinder, 1.6L, VTEC. Only DOHC engine valvecovers say VTEC Bro. Honda doesn't like to style up SOHC D engines.

Just see if you have the vtec solenoid. I believe its in the upper left hand side of the valve cover.
