Default Changing Stock Cat

I got a 98 bb6, pretty sure this is the stock cat that came with the car. I'm trying to save myself $400 and do it myself. If it seems like because its been on there so long it'll be better off in the hands of an exhaust shop then that'll have to be. But I'm one of those stubborn hands on guys. Any help would be sweet, thanks in advance.

Sorry, whats the deal in changing it? Is it just a matter of unbolting the old one and putting the new one back in? Is there a lil more work involve?

There's a little more work involved. You also have to unscrew the O2 sensor and screw it back in. But that's the whole shabang.

Have either a breaker bar or long wrench handy, those bolts aren't going to come off willingly, that's the main part of the work.

I had to cut/torch mine off then i ended up replacing the entire exhaust system with the buddy club pro spec 3 and bought a new cat. when those bolts get seized up its no fun its worth it to buy some never seize to make life easier in the future

The cat alone will be around $300 (aftermarket) or around $600 (oem).

A shop will usually charge around $50 for installation.

WTF are you smoking? You can get a Magnaflow cat for around $50.

Maybe if he lived in Cali, I could see $300.

Yea I saw the magnoflow high flow for 50. If you get it from them its like 300-400. Off ebay same thing is 50 bucks or so. Now after getting the the bolts out just kinda muscle it out or bang it out? Or should i run a sawz-all through incase it like siezed in there. Wanna ask all possible questions before I start and shoot myself in the foot.

I don't think sawz-alling anything is a good idea, the flex pipe and rubber hangars should give you enough wiggle room to get it out.
