quick cat question
for those of you that have dealt with installing a catback with the cat bolts being rusted to hell ,is there any chance of the cat (rusted portions like the flange) breaking or by having to get the rusted bolts out by bangin them.. can any damage be done to the cat or o2 sensor for that matter...thanks
Yes, the ceramic brick inside the cat is somewhat sensitive to shock. IE banging on an adjacent area could cause it to fracture and, worse, break apart. Can't say for sure, but I wouldn't beat on my cat. Have you tried PB Blaster? Someone handy with a cutting torch could cut the bolts off and not harm the flanges.

ok i have a fresh can of pb blaster...all new oem nuts and bolts to bolt the cat to catback...the oem bolts in the cat have a weird shaped head (rectangular with rounded edges) and and lil splines that seem to lock the bolts into the cat so the bolt wont turn..correct? how hard is it to get the old rusted ones out of the cat...i know after cutting or whatever its gonna take to get the nuts of but the bolts i know are gonna be a pita to remove from the cat...

Maybe when I changed my B-pipe they were rusted beyond recognition & I used stainless bolts from the hardware store?
when i called up acura to order them the specified those are the ones i needed...im hoping so now...but with my luck..i know they wont be the right ones or will not work...damn i need a local friend with a teg and a lil experience behind him for things like this to help me...
the bolts pressed into the cat are not hard to remove. i had to saw the binded nut off, shoot in some wd-40, and hammer them out. i'm sure there are better ways, but i had to make due. i noticed some loose particles due to the banging, but i'm sure its negligible.
thanks mam...and loose particles of what the cat? or the bolt...long as i can get them out the rest of the install should go with ease...thats my main concern...
ok tonights the night i will be installing my catback at my friends shop...any last minute tips or things to be aware of as far as the rusted bolts go and what not...thanks everyone..
I have a 93 gsr and if I wouldn't have found that torch in my friend's garage we would have never gotten the bolts off. We just melted both ends off, and punched the remaining of the bolts out.
