Is the GSR tranny or the Ls tranny better for b20vtec?
I was wondering on what are you guys thoughts on a b20vtec running with a gsr tranny or an ls tranny, which would be better, I think GSR but some are saying go with the ls due to the longer shifting of gears and being in the power band a lil longer, is this true or is GSR always better? also I know that gsr tranny is labeled as s80 or y80 but is ls also labeled the same? or can I say that the S in s80 means GSR, ans Y in 80 means ls? How can I really tell? Thanks in advance..

I thought the GSR and LS were the same with exception to the final gear or is that the GSR and ITR?
From what I have heard it was the GSR tranny, if any comparison were to be made it's normally GSR or SI tranny, I haven't seen anyone want to opt for an LS transmission though
EDIT : I wanted to verify my information, but had no luck from what I searched out you would be best going with a gsr transmission, unless you are going to see high hp numbers the longer gearing of the LS is not necessary.

Nope the only simliar gears for the LS and gsr are 1&2.. beyond that the gsr has tighter gearing.. and a higher FD gear as well
http://ff-squad.com/Bgears.htm Courtesy of Katman I believe all the information is correct
and as a personal experience.. I've had a ls tranny on my stock LS and now I have a gsr tranny.. the difference is night and day I can only imagine what difference u'll see with the type of power the b20/vtec can make

Not to open a new can of worms here, but looking at the FF-squad gear ratios wouldn't it be better to use JDM ITR '98 transmission, but for money purposes the US 92-01Delsol (B16A) 99+ Si transmission ( the only difference to the '98 jdm ITR is 5th gear and slight difference in 4th) the b16A transmission is nearly identical to the US 97-01 ITR, JDM 95-97 ITR, JDM 92-00 SiR/CTR (with exception to final drive which is 4.266 for the 99+SI but not del sol)
Thanks for the chart and clarification

yes a b16 tranny would be best for smaller budget N/A applications.. but I'd hate to drive on the freeway alot with one..but it's all preference I kinda miss how my old sohc dx would do 80@3krpms awww .. well 3900 isn't to bad with a gsr but a b16 or ITR gets annoying if you can't keep your foot off the acclerorator or if u don't have Cruise control

I really looked into that chart (good source) it seems if you are looking into LSD in the future why not use an ITR transmission. I also believe you are able to change out the final drive of a USDM ITR if deciding to go with a less costly USDM and later getting the final drive of a JDM transmission
1) having the option of changing out the final drive ?
2) factory LSD
sorry if this was just GSR and LS, get the GSR if all else, it also seems the Y80 would only be GSR, but I cannot verify that.

Yup I have an integra ls engine in a 96 civic with the Y21 delsol tranney and it kicks *** for streets light to light and everything but sucks on the highway when your going 75mph and are at 4000 rpms in 5th gear.
My brother was running a B20Vtec with an LS tranny a while back and he loved it. Back when he was messing with his car he was one of the quickest NA Civic's in Cincinnati. Also one of the first (to my knowledge) to do the swap. But yes, he loved the tranny and had no problem smacking up on people. He also enjoyed the high top speed.
