your oil pressure may be getting too low throwing the light. Hows the oil pump?

well as far as i know the pump is fine. its a JDM swap so there is nothing saying that it is perfect by anymeans. it only sets the light in 3rd gear right around when it hits VTEC.

it was code 22 at first, VTEC oil pressure sensor, then it set 21 which i believe was the VTEC solenoid. maybe need to replace the solenoid but just didnt know if this was a common issue or an inexpensive repair

I'm assuming there may be something up with your oil. If it's not throwing it the minute you hit VTEC in any gear, it's an oil problem, namely an oil pressure problem in third gear.

Honda's take 5w - 30 bro. If you don't have exact oil specs, VTEC says F you.

Might need a new pressure switch.

clean out your vtec solenoid and see if that fixes sometimes they get dirty and plugged so no pressure would be applied there...

Yes you can reuse the old seals but the best way to do this job is always replaced old gasket by new ones.

If you're afraid of that, when you clean it, use brake cleaner not carb. Carb cleaner is bad for rubber seals and gaskets.
