Really annoying cooling system problems
Okay so I've been working on my gf's civic for a few months now, starting to get familiar with it.
For a while now shes been complaining about the temp gauge going up. I found a receipt in her glove box for the t-stat, t-stat housing and fan switch being replaced just under a year ago.. so, i crossed those off the list. I assumed it was the radiator and went ahead and replaced that. Now, for some reason, it still keeps overheating - mostly on the freeway.
Last thing i can think of would be water pump? How would I know for sure if that's what it is? I checked all the hoses, they look good. would it really be the waterpump if it's only overheating on the freeway?
It's not the headgasket, i checked all the signs for that. Also, it's a 2001 EX with 116k miles.
I read recently the waterpump is in the timing cover? so if it is the waterpump... i might as well doing a timing belt at the same time.

The switch is fine if the fans come on, maybe theres air in the system. When u start up the car, start it up with out the cap. It will allow air to get out. Lets c if that works.
was that not enough time? should i try for a longer period of time?
