I am trying to convert my automatic timing belt tensioner on my 98' sh Prelude, to a manuel tensioner from a H23a 4th gen lude. I've been reading on how to do it and it looks simple, but has anyone done this successfully. I don't want to buy the parts and realize it doesn't work. Im doing this because the stupid Hydrolic tensioner keeps failing and I have to keep replacing it. Does anyone have any insight on this.
Thanks in Advance

no I didn't. And I lied I have been trying it, I have my car apart in the garage but I can't seem to get the f****** timing belt over the tensioner, even when the tensioner is all the way down, I'm goin to keep playing with it. Does the original belt have to be used or is there another one longer or maybe a smaller tensioner? I'm using parts from a H23A 94' Prelude.

I bought all the Honda OEM parts and did mine, the belt is a tight fit but if you press down hard on the tensioner you should be able to get it to slide over it. Your gonna fight with it, everyone who has done this will tell you its gonna be a tight fit.

I've had the best luck with putting it over the water pump last. put it over the crank and cams, then bump the crank over a hair counter clockwise to tighten everythign up and loosen up the water pump side, and then slide it over the water pump.

I did it successfully on my car. Didn't have to buy anything, my boy had blown his h23 up so i just stole all his parts lol. Like they said the belt is a tight fit. It's a real pain.

Is that ok I thought the belt should have some flex, have you guys run in to any problems because its too tight. I guess Ill install my new cams before I put the belt over because I know I won't be able to stick the cams in with the belt being so tight. So no problems for you guy?
