This direct bolt on cat converter went bad after 1 year. The honeycomb is intact, but the unit throws P0420's even after new O2's and a perfectly working ignition system. My question is if this amount of black soot is normal? Doesn't look that bad to me. Do you think they will warrant this?

I had my cat off the other day on my accord, it looks way worse than that and I have no problems. I say yours is still good

 

i never had issue with mine going strong 5yrs... anyways my friend"s cat took a **** on him after 2 yrs, he added a bung extention on top of the one on the cat put o2 sensor back in and the cell went away..

That amount of soot buildup doesn't look bad at all to me. JMO

 

I had a magnaflow high flow disappear over 1 year lol...put it on in january, took it off in april next year and the honeycomb was gone
