which build up? b20 or high comp ls

which build up? b20 or high comp ls
so i have a b18a in my hatch. now i have some money for a new motor and i also have a b16a head. options as i see it are
1. build the ls high comp with new rings/rod bolts/nice port
2. buy a stock b20 shortblock and build a b20vtec stock, no rings, no pistons.
also whats a b20 shortblock run, $500?
