OT: Sunglass comfort inside a helmet
Does anybody have a problem wearing sunglasses under their helmet? I have a couple serious pressure points on my temples and just behind my ears from the glasses I wear while racing.
I'm wondering if there is any good quality driving sungasses that have flatter temple peices. Anyone have any recommendations? (I considered a tinted sheild but prefer glasses...)
Greg ~ who's fat head may be the real source of the problem.

I may be partly responsible for Greg's fat head. I told him he was fast.
Have you tried a shaded or smoked visor attachment?

I should have a pin-size head given my performance this year...
I like the glasses and running with an open visor, especially in the heat - "more air!" //gasp//
Thanks for the info on the Oakleys guys. I'll make sure I take my helmet next time I go to the mall.

Yep, same damage that I did to my wire Ray Bans. I'm looking at the a wire 2.0. http://oakley.com/ostore/eyewear/a_wire_2.0_sh/
The C's look like they have that big bulge at the end of the ear piece(?).
I wish the military styles were available...

I wear prescription sunglasses with My Bell M2. I bought the Bell because it has a wide eye port to help with glasses, etc. I have wire "aviator" style frames. I have to put the helmet partially on, then put the glasses on, then slide the whole thing down into place. What a pain.
I'm actually considering Lasik to get rid of my glasses and make it easier to play sports, and particularly to wear a helmet.

I'm looking for a pair that I can put on and take off without having to go through that ridiculous series of steps...
Right now, I am using some polarized glassed from Eddie Bauer belive it or not. I also have used some Oakley Straight Jackets. I think I will be going back to the O's. I like the fact that they have the plastic lens for impact protection. Did you know that they pass the ANSI standard fof shooting glasses?
I have these, they're the Nike Interchange Square model. Interchangeable plastic lenses (useful to be able to switch to the orange lenses in flat light I've found while autocrossing and snowboarding) You can get a bunch of different tinted lenses. Nylon frame, vented rubber nose piece so it doesn't slide down your face when you get sweaty, pretty close wrap to your face but far enough away that they don't hit my long eyelashes. Good optics throughout the field of vision, no distortion, and really good peripheral vision. Keeps debris out of the eyes pretty well too, and they work great with my helmet. I just put the helmet on first, get it all strapped up, then slip the glasses in when I'm ready to go.
from me! Plus if you scratch the lenses, you can replace just those.~Chris, who felt decidedly funny carrying his helmet into 4 sunglass stores to find what sunglasses were most compatible, but found some that do the job.

I use the 'e-wire' from Oakley, no problems whatsoever. Straight arms slide right behind the ear, perfect in my opinion for use under a helmet. Check out the Oakley site, then find one you like on eBay.
If you buy the Oakleys on Ebay, you better be very careful. There are a ton of people pawning off fake ones. I used to work @ a retail store that carried them. You wouldn't believe the glasses that people used to tried to get warrentied or parts for.
i wear glasses under my helmet at autox.. im blind without them
i just out the helmet on, then stick the glasses through, its hard to get the glasses to sit around my ears like they r supposed to so i just stick the glasses in, so that they at least sit on my face correctly without any pain. works good for me.

I've got oakley A-wires that are beat to hell, but they do the trick...the arms do bow out and it's not easy to slide them in the groove meant for glasses in the MAG-4 i have, but once htey're in there they're quite comfy. I keep almost loosing them, i think i subconciously want a new pair, but as long as i can still see out of these and can bend them back into shape i'll stick with 'em...
interesting thread. i too use my oakley sunglasses A-wires inside my helmet. yeah, its a tight fit, but its still comfortable and goes straight in without anything behind the ear. plenty of room with my bell m2, and still not a problem with my arai. if youre going to buy Oakley A wires, make sure its the newer 2.0, MUCH better design. they added a spring hinge, so less likely to bend the arm and the bridge is beefier.
take note tho if you wear sunglasses in a helmet and are in direct sunlight for a while like riding a motorcycle, you get really funky tanlines... i use a tinted visor for my motorcycle helmet now.

I have been using Serengeti glasses for 12 years now, and am needing to replace them soon, great thread.
I was thinking about the Oakleys also and am checking out Serengetis again. The Serengetis have some nice lense technology, worth taking a look at.

I just use some cheap $10 sunglasses that have a nice yellow lens. Really adds more light on flat overcast days. The arms are pretty flexible so I just have to tweet them to feel and sit right with my open face helmet.
