Hello, I am planning on turboing my 98 civic ex. It has the stock d16y8 and am only looking to make a few more horsepower. I want something reliable and wanna do it the right way. I am only planning on running 7-10 lbs of boost. I am going to buy a new engine to build so I can still drive my car while im building. I need some input. Odds are im going to stay with a single cam d16y8 or the d16z6. Please if anyone has any setups they can share with me i will be more then happy to see and figure out my shopping list down to the fuel pump. Remember reliable. Thanks Pics of my car coming soon

 

stock d with stock internals and stock fuel pump can take around 200whp i believe with a good tune.

X pounds of boost on a small turbo is different fron X pounds of boost on a larger turbo.
but for your purposes, 7psi from any turbo should be fine.

do you want to keep AC? do you not have AC? do you want to have the turbo kick in earlier or later? do you not care?

for starters youll need:

370-440cc injectors
obd2->pbd1 conversion with an actual tune, prob with chrome or something to meet your reliability goals and work with aftermarket injectors
a turbo + downpipe + matching exhaust sys
ic piping and ic
a turbo manifold..

Please put effort into searching. i know most forums WILL flame you and not be too helpful much if your post reflect little to no effort/research.

ive recently had the same questions as you and google provided me with more than enough knowledge for me to finish my build this month. if you have no idea what the items i listed are, make sure you know how turboing works before you start. its not cheap and could have your car not running for a length of time. having a shop do it will also probably double the amount of money you plan to spend.

yeah i know all about turbos. I had a first gen eclipse turbo. I just never turboed a non turboed car before and i know alot of people on here turbo d16y8's as well as d16z6's. S would like for the turbo to spool up early seeing how i most likely will not take the engine past 6000. i dont like abusing my engines haha. so early is better and i just want enought boost to feel it when i want to. just i didnt know what a good compression ratio, pistons, rods, crank to use. I will also prob just buy a built up head seeing how they are everywhere. Thanks and keep the input coming.
