Default Going for 500whp Saturday - How much boost (E85)??

I know E85 is not race gas but people are putting down huge numbers. I live in Colorado so I know the blend changes from summer to winter (not sure when exactly?). How worried should I be that this will change my tune? I've got a wideband and prologger... I'm tempted to max the turbo out, does anyone think I shouldn't?

s300
Sleeved 83mm B18
GSR cams and IM
GT3076r
1000CC Injectors
Single Walbro 255

What's the most boost I can run on a GT3076r without compressor surge or turbo damage?

Thanks

the turbo can only do so much considering it is 52lbs/min. Although some dynos have recorded over 550whp, that was one pull at one gear only, and should not be a representative of an output that is on a regular basis. About 480-500whp is about the maximum it is capable of regardless of gas.

Think more of what you are using this car for in colorado, and not just power output. E85 is very combustible, but I would look to your tuner to use both regular 92-93 octane for the lower boost and the E85 for higher boost levels. with S300 you can have multiple calibrations

Thanks. It's running 25psi now with fuel to go. I guess I'll just have to see what the fuel system can handle. If the fuel's there, what's the max boost the turbo can "safely" handle?

The goal is to max it out for the strip and run less power on the street (around 400). I have a 20psi 91 octane tune that I can run if I need "regular" pump gas.

Well, the turbo can "handle" over 30psi, the question is can your engine handle the inefficient heat that the turbo is going to give at that boost level.

So for example say I'm at 475whp @ 28 psi, would you say I stop there instead of say pushing 33psi for 500? How can I tell when Im in an "acceptable" efficiency range?

Also, how much timing is acceptable on E85?

I have a very similar setup up, and at 23 psi it put down 505whp, and at 25psi, it put down 517whp...turbo was running out of "breath" Did not see needing to put more boost to it after that.

Can't answer your timing question. I'm not a tuner.

As for "when to stop", when you're starting to see where increasing more boost will not only net less power but start to require timing to be retarded, its time to stop. In your case, you're just about there. I wouldn't go to 33psi. Sounds like its time for an upgrade

On this turbo, could you see hitting almost 600 changing from a .63 to the .82? What is to be gained from making this change?

Going from E70 to E85 left me 1+ point lean on my wideband...

You wont notice a gain if there is any gain at all from switching to a .82 from a .63. Not on a 30r at least. Youll notice a difference in spool up but thats about it. Only difference the .82 is gonna make over the .63 is the efficiency it has at lower boost level. You might be able to flow a little more power thru it, but it wont be very drastic, not 100hp difference. The turbo can only do so much.

With as many cars that I have tuned on E85 and a single Walbro 255 fuel pump, I usually ran out of fuel ~450 to 475whp. This is on a dynojet btw.

Also, I will confirm that you will see about 1 A/F difference between E70 and E85. To be certain of the ethanol percentage, you can pick up a simple tester for like $15 online and test it each time you fill up.

getting bigger cams (as long as you have the valvetrain to support them) would really help you meet your goals.

one of the mods on team integra made 501hp on his built gsr with a GT3076R @ 28psi if i recall correctly. This was on race gas tuned by King Motorsports

28psi is a lot of boost for 501hp...

i would call that reaching a goal but also stretching for it...

503.13whp/372wtq @ 30psi - 110 Octane

I guess those were the numbers. It doesnt seem out of the ordinary for that turbo, i think thats reaching the limits of it.

He is fully built with GSR cams. So there is power to be made.

Good info I'll look into a tester. Looks like I'll have a chance for 500whp but it'll be tough with GSR cams. I'm also running the new Precision gate, I'll let you know my findings on spring options since it comes with 5.

you're probably going to run out of fuel or be in a very high duty cycle for those injectors. I don't feel comfortable with anything over 90% duty cycle.

I also want to add that running a 500hp car on E85 safely may be an issue as most walbros max out around 420-45whp on E85.

Not to say it cant be done, a friend of mine made 500whp on his Turbo 2L Lsvtec, E85, Single walbro, but my tuner backed it down because 1. his IDC wouldve been too high, and 2. his fuel pump was being pushed. He backed it down to 450whp, and plans to upgrade to 2150cc injectors.

If i were you, i would look into a full blown dual walbro, bosch, or aeromotive setup. Regardless gl with your dyno today.

I think their are some factors UN considered. Headwork. Compression. 9.8:1 with decent headwork on 25 lbs should make 500 IMO. Correct me if I'm wrong
