Default 1988 CRX Opinion

I might be able to get a running 1988 CRX (unsure of model) for less than $500.

What could I do with this thing?

Are certain models more or less desireable?

Thanks.

The 88's tend to be pretty popular because they are lighter than the later years.

What could you do with it? TONS!

What fun would it be if you dont have at least 3 trash bins full of interior?

I guess I was really wondering what classes I could race one in... and with what mods restriction.

Thanks again.

Three trash bins? BAH! How about a whole garage full! Anyone want some CRX parts?

As for classes and modification, you first need to decide what type (or types) of racing you want to do and pick up a rule book.

If it is an Si, they are generally considered to be the overdog in SCCA regional Improved Touring A, there are LOTS of parts and tons of knowledge out there to support them. The "standard" CRX is also in ITA but isn't typically accepted as being so competitive. You may also autocross either car (in ITA form) but it won't be quite as competitive there.

Not to make your decisions for you but think about starting with it as a dedicated autocrosser and don't make any changes to it that (a) can't be easily undone or (b) make it illegal for IT. This way, you reserve the option, if you really get hooked, of stepping up to road racing.

You can also run NASA, Honda Challenge and other sanctioned events with an IT-legal car while the reverse is not always the case. It is a good answer for a multipurpose toy. Go to http://www.scca.org and order a copy of the rulebook for specifics and do NOT make any modifications until you know what is legal and what isn't.

Have fun!
