how to tell if a hood is oem or generic?

Default how to tell if a hood is oem or generic?

im looking at a eg hood and he claims its oem honda. any way to tell if its oem or generic?

the quality of the metal. tiawan **** is exactly that. those will have a sticker that say "r-dot" oem honda hoods will have the oem stickers on them which are hard as hell to take off

that's just it. Look for the VIN sticker. without it, it's aftermarket.

In my experience, the aftermarket no name crappy hoods seem bulkier and weight about 50% more...they are heavy!

one thing you can do is knock on an original panel and again on the aftermarket panel. there is a very distinct difference in pitch.

VIN decals on body panels weren't implemented on 5th gen Civic's.

And OEM Honda collision parts for vehicles that were equipped come with a blank one.

cool. didn't know that. i guess this may be the only car i wouldn't want to see a vin sticker on, right?

Some 6th gen Civic's didn't either, I forget what year they started doing VIN decals on body panels.

my 98 has the VIN's, too. i'm pretty sure my dad's old 96 hatch had the vin's on every panel, also.

Yes the weight I guess is the give away. My hood ways alot..

My 95 sol has vin stickers on the panels i callled the dealer when i got the car and thay told me that it was a Security option for all hondas from 94 and up but most ppl didn't want to pay $200 for them. so very few have them but in 2001 most honda's came stock with them,
