Default Mission 180...how to get there

Hey guys, just wondering what it would take for my little B16A2 to hit a modest number, 180whp. It's not much, but i think it's a realistic goal that uses the basic mods.

Here's what's on right now...

MemoryFab whale intake
'01 spec ITR intake cam
DC 4-2-1
Megan resonated test pipe
Greddy Ti catback

I haven't done a baseline dyno yet, but i'm thinking I should be around the 15x whp range.

What should be my next move? AEBS/Skunk2/PerformerX intake mani with 68mm TB (which of these is the best bang for the buck btw?)

or get a P28 and a tune? Which chip/program is also the best bang for the buck as well?

Thanks for the help

From all the horror stories I've heard of LS/B20 vtecs, i will NEVER go into that area

Plus i like the rpm range of the A2, if I were to switch motors, I would go into a C5 or a K but for now I want to have some reliable fun with this motor.

I'm not here to knock on that setup, my buddy ran a boosted ls/v and i know another guy that ran a B20/V....they both made good power but both are no longer in existance.

My A2 block is healthy so I don't see a reason to change it for now

Throw the intake you have in the garbage, and get a pipe and a v-stack. The Whale intakes are just a bunch of hype.

An intake is an intake right? Is the V-stack that great?

Is that safe to run on a daily as well? I dont see any filtration with cars running V-stacks...

no an intake is not just an intake.

the whale ***** intakes have shown power losses. and you can most certainly run a filter on a stack. you can get them together through bpi.

your going to need better cams for 180whp in a B16. Maybe some s2s2 with supporting valvetrain, and nice header(not DC) and good 2.5" or + exhaust systems

As for IM I personally use S2 and for the TB 68mm is a good number to go with

i'm going to look into velocity stacks more, I don't know much about them.

Appreciate the input man

Yeah, i'm looking at the dyno thread, about halfway now and I realize I'll need a more aggresive cam for those figures.

Are all TB's equal? I know the Omni power one has been on sale for a long time in the marketplace for $99

i personaly would mill the head a dash tunner 2 cams or blox c's if you trust em, 2 layer head gasket , check your clearence some valve train for the cams and a tune , and if money permits get a decent header for 180 the toda replica or kidd racing rmf replica would do nice

if your looking for 180whp on a b16a2 I would suggest

Skunk2 stage 2 cams
Skunk2 cam gears
DC sports header
Password JDM intake
Skunk2/edelbrock victor x intake manifold

that should get you the power you want

I am going to build a b16b ctr engine for my crx i'm getting
crower 2.1 stroker kit, (since it uses the b18c block)
Skunk2 stage 3 cams
OBX ITB's
DC sports header
skunk2 valvetraine

there is alot more stuff but im sticking to engine related only but i'm looking for 220whp, couldn't have a cooler daily driver

Wow so much mismatched information today.
First some questions. Do you want to say with your ITR cam? If so do you also have the exhaust cam? Are you willing to replace everything you have listed?

Intake System
3" CAI with a BPI Velocity Stack
Skunk2 Pro Intake manifold, Performer X might be too big
TB 62mm to 65mm

Exhaust
Toda or Toda clone header (Spooling maybe)
2.5" exhaust

Block
Higher compression pistons, target about 11.5:1
Maybe just a thinner HG and have the head milled

Head
Skunk2 Tuner 2's, Pro1's or some cam around these specs
Cam gears
Valve train to go with the cams selected
I don't think you will get there with ITR cams

Finally
Tune with Hondata, Crome, Neptune, Ectune to something

i have a b16a2 as well, with just bolt ons, but i dont have 180hp.

But to get there or close to it this is what I would do,

3inch Aem Short ram or CIA with Velocity stack
Under drive pulleys on Alternator/Power steering if you have them still,
2.5 exhuast, 2.5 Test pipe
Ceramic or Jet coated, Smsp or Toda header with a 2.5 outlet, header will help scavenge exhuast gas's, which im not sure if this is correct but with overlap from a cam the header can help pull air in the cylinder to create a denser charge, Don't quote me on that im not positive but i know it helps with something like that when everything is paired correct, intake, cam, header.

skunk2 pro 1's or MX cam's or the bisi cam which im sure would be nice for a little extra cash
Corrosponding Valve train by cam company.
Lightest easy to adjust cam gears, prolly skunk2's
Head gasket
Ported head if you have the cash.
id stick with a ITR ported IM or Skunk2 newer style ported or even custom
Hondata race IM gasket
Throttle body id get something not to large but one you can machine to be bigger if you think it needs to be.
Light weight pistons, prolly bisi if he has them
don't forget a new clutch/flywheel, exedy stage 1 is what i have with a resurfaced gsr flywheel clutch is super for d/d

Like everyone says I would get rid of that intake and get something better. Bump compression and some good quality cams(Bisi) and I think you can easily reach your goal.
I also found this posted today:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=365

Seemed interesting and would fit what your looking to do. I know I love my Bisi header My next project has a goal of 180hp but I want to do a D16 stroker haha

jun3 or s2s2 or s2s1
appropriate valvesprings and retainers
ITR intake valves or a set of good flat faced valves
CTR pistons or P30 pistons + milled head + thinner gasket or p30 pistons+GSR cylinder head
arp rod bolts(you need to rev high)
arp head studs(safety for head lift)
ITR/zspeed/blox intake manifold(a must, a stock P30 IM cant make power past 8400)
64mm or 68mm TB
stock+fuel pressure regulator+itr fuel pump or 310cc injectors+itr fuel pump
adjustable cam gears
engine management system

proper clearances proper build a very good tune 180whp(dynojet) is easy :D

I have a thread here back in 2006 that I cant find.. its all there

Dajum, fstgsr is right...

So much moronic advice. The guy just looking for 180whp.

Just:
- mill the head about 0.02
- get some m22x with springs and retainers on stock cam gears
- som supertech flat faced vlees to help cr over 11:1
- get a stock ITR intake mani with stock TB
- and for heavens sake get rid of the whale *****

A healthy b16 should already have 180whp, if not, get a proper exh mani and you'kl be there

Yeah, people tend to overcomplicate setups and come out dissapointed.

Milling, cams and boltons is all most people need to make decent power.
