Default 99 Honda Accord Starting Problems.

I have a 1999 Honda Accord that has some weird starting problems and the mechanic who I usually take my car to couldn't figure out the problem. Anyways, we have found that when we put the key into the ignition and turn it to the spot where the power comes on in my car (Radio, windows, etc.) my car will start if the little green light and the check engine light lite up on my dash. If the lights do not lite up I will turn the key and the car will do everything but turn over, my starter will run continual cycles but it will not start. We think it's because the engine is not getting a spark, so, we checked my distributor cap and the coil and all that stuff and it wasn't that. On top of all this I have noticed, through frustration from it not starting at the worst possible times, that if I shake my steering column by pressing down, towards the engine, and then back towards myself that it causes the check engine light and the green key on my dash to lite up. This was working %100 of the time for at least two months until today. So I was hoping someone on here had some suggestions for me.

This...your car may be covered by recall. If it's already been done expect to pay for it, mine was done once under recall then it failed again and had to be replaced at my cost

Contact your local dealer, the service dept will be able to tell you if your car has infact been serviced by the recall. If not you may still be covered (I should hope so) if not then it sounds like you may have to eat the cost of another one. I would also crack the cover off the column to expose the wires just to check for loose connections.

Mine had the same problem but had already been replaced under warranty so I had to do it myself the second time. The part was only 40 bucks at a local parts store and I fixed it myself. It has a lifetime warranty and it's been over a year ago with no problems since. My car was shutting off pulling out into traffic and going down the interstate too though haha, dangerous problem.

I had the exact same problem. Before you go to the dealer or another mechanic check the relay under the dash mine hangs way back to the left just below the steering column but tucked back. It's a brown plug with 8 wires coming out the back of it. It plugs into a black box 1 1/2 " x 2". If you turn your key two clicks and then wiggle that little box or tap it with your foot the green square around the D on your dash should light up. There also may be a little green key symbol that should light up too. When it lights up ( and stay lit) start your car. These cars are notorious for this issue. If that doesn't help you go to the local scrap yard pick n pull whatever and go pull one out from a 98-99 Accord there and plug it into your car.

You can also solder in an immobilizer bypass if it is the immobilizer.

Hello, if you're still here, please reply. Thus item is not linked at Ebay, and I'm interested in it. I am handy with soldering. And I'm at my wit's end with this green key light. It's so random, but the days when I turn the key and no green light I know it's going to be one or the other: tapping on the plastic just above the left knee eventually "turns on" the green key light, and I can successfully start the 2000 Accord SE. Or it won't. Then, will it start again after I drive where I'm going? You never know. Then there are days when it turns on normally all day long. My wife's been stranded twice. Please direct me to a similar product to help me bypass the stupid immobilizer.
