Default Cast turbo manifold Q

I'm trying to help my buddy build a kit for his d16 del sol. I came accross this mani:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/d15-d...item27b265387c

Before it is said, big facepalm at myself for even mentioning an ebay part for a turbo build. Now let me explain While I realize the manifold is 99% likely to be horribly inefficient, and will probably creep a good amount of boost, I'm mainly concerned with how durable it is and if it will fit. I know a similar mani is made for my car (K motor), but the design of it doesn't jive with the motor and the wastegate doesn't fit on it once it's mounted on.

Has anyone used this, and found it to be workable and durable? I realize ebay parts suck, but since it's a heavy cast manifold, I'm hoping it's strong enough to hold a low boost setup.

It would also work perfectly since my bud has very little money, and I just bought a buncha stuff for my car and will have a spare GT25 turbo lying around for him to use on this mani.

Thanks in advance for anything you know about this. Hopefully we can leave the ebay comments/opinions out of this thread since I only want replies from people who have used or have experience with this particular mani.

Experience with that EXACT manifold, no, but my friend used an ebay manifold like that for a little over a year with no problems but switched to a ported/polished ram horn just because it looks and flows a lot better. He's also using an ebay turbo with no problems too. He's making (I think) around 300hp on his Focus hatch. Yes, that's a Ford Focus, lol.

same for me not having direct experience with an eBay manifold, but i have heard good things about the cast manifolds. now the tubular ones made by companies like ssautochrome have a tendency to crack and break where the wastegate is mounted.

specifically the ones that look like this

so definitely stay away from those lol

That's the one I bought aside from having the wastegate flange (DSM turbo). I agree that they WILL crack but the reason I bought it again is because it's cheap and they come with a lifetime warranty against cracks, so when it cracks (and it will) you get a free one. They actually do honor it.

I picked one of those up for my brother's CRX, and I was surprised at how well built it seems to be. Sure the design is probably less than ideal, but if you search eBay correctly you can get that manifold for ~$70 shipped to your door. Thats a deal.

Dude before u make a huge mistake, dont get either ur boy will thank u later. Iv used the second one (ss) and couldnt hold boost below 13psi and I had a tial wastegate with a 5 pound spring. Befor I got the tial I had a ebay wg witha 8 pound spring and it wouldnt hold anything under 18psi due to the the shitty placement of the wastegate. Then after 6 months it completely cracked to the point where the turbo was just dangling there held on by a vacuum hose. Now the first one u showed us probably wont crack but it still has horrible wastegate placement. Find a cast one with the wastegate positionioned right in the middle of all 4 runners. oh and dont ever think they will replace it when it breaks, not on cheap ebay ****. If u get a name brand off ebay then yes

Dont forget that once u choose ur turbo manifold the exhaust will have to b built for the specific manifold. SO ul not only b wasting money on the manifold but ul also have to redo ur downpipe and exhaust if these manifolds end up not working out

I dont understand y people vouch for this crap. Iv encountered several ebay kits in real life, and not once have the owners said they would buy it again. When i got my kit 4 years ago I was listening to people just like on this thread and within a week my turbo was blowing oil, the wg was broke, and both supports on the manifold had fallen off.

the cast iron will work just fine for your friend, just look for one with the wastegate is position in the center of the cast iron manifold. it will last a very long time.

Thanks for the replies guys, helpful as usual. I figured the tubular mani's on ebay would probably crack since they're all made of thin piping, but I was hoping that the cast would be durable, and it seems like it is. Very much appreciated. I realize the flow characteristics of this mani will suck, but for my friend, they will suffice. Thanks again

no the waste gate flow characteristics for the manifold u r showing us will not suffice. Make sure the wg placement is centered within the 4 exhaust runners
