Default PPG DIY? Some questions before I attempt it.

Okay, a couple of months ago, I blew 2nd in my Acura RSX-s (k20a2).

I took off the transmission and cleaned it out. This is where I was extremely retarded I couldn't get the casing on so I torqued it on. Now it grinds/whines and whatnot (even in neutral) and it will move in gears but sounds just horrible(thought about it later and i should've frozen the bearings and heated the housing instead of torqueing it on).

Is this going to be usable for PPG (straight cut gears) or could the housing itself be destroyed? Maybe just replace end bearings?

I'm thinking about doing ppgs myself. I have a 6spd and if I wanted to use ppgs, it would be a 5 speed. What do i do with the extra length of shaft? Picture below of a 6spd with 5 gears on. As you can see, there is an area where the 6th gear + bearing goes. What do I do with the splined length where 6th normally went?

just takes some time and finesse, if its like any other honda tranny, but I've not done a K. All you probably did was ruin the bearings. Honestly though, if you had trouble just putting it back together, I'd get it to someone who knows what they're doing, or at least get them to help you.

Is freezing/heat gun a good idea?

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try anyways heh. Just take more time this time and do it right.

did you make sure that the snap ring was open when you were putting the case back together so it would seat in the groove on the bearing?

Freezing and heat gun is not necessary. Check out the FSM if you need help. But no, the shafts into the carrier bearings aren't an interference fit.

I understand it isn't an interference fit or necessary but it would make things easier I'm guessing. I could not get that housing on to save my life and was getting really frustrated. The snap ring was not the problem. If I could've even gotten to the snap ring, things would've been fine. Nothing was in the way either just couldn't get it on. Same thing with my diff but my large friend ended up getting that on for me.

The problem was that you did not lash the gears correctly. All the gears have to have the proper lash. You cant just throw on the gears in there and them not being in spec. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the tranny (still) but it will start wearing the gears wrong and syncros will also wear super quick and start poping out of gear, is its not already.

As for the 5 spd conversion what you need is a spacer like the one used in the 5spd trannies.
