Default A/C smoking

my little brothers 96 4door ls is smoking when he turns on his a/c, not a whole lot, just enough for you to see it and smell it

he just bought the car too, and i notice the heater has been by-passed

what could cause the smoking for the a/c? i've seen leaking heater core's that well make it smoke, but like i said the heater core has been by-passed

any input??? thanks

when you say smoking, do you mean from the exhaust pipe or from the A/C vents in the dash when it's running?

Sounds kind of odd....

If it's smoke coming from the vents, this isn't smoke. When seals go bad, the A/C refrigerant leaks into the system and blows out through the vents. You can swipe your finger across the inside of the windshield and find a greasy film of goo from the leaking A/C.

prolly not too good for your lungs either.

Need more info.
