After Y8 head swap..Overheats = smoke coming out from rad.
me and my friends swapped out heads..Y8 head on z6 block..everything went/fitted fine..cept we had to modify the distributor to make it fit.. (drill hole bigger). now it overheats..smoke comes out from the radiator. any ideas?..anyone had any problems like this after a head swap? we flushed the radiator several times..could it be..water pump, thermostat, rad cap, radiator or..the timing?? thanks for your help.

i just purchased a rebuilt radiator, i installed it but it still overheats...bought a new thermostat..but haven't installed yet....please give me some advice that will help me!
it was my understanding that if you use a y8 head on the z6 block, you wouldn't have to modify the distributor with the 4g civic/crx. correct me if i'm wrong, because i've never done this swap before. thanks.

the y8 head is being slapped on a z6 block....the car is a 93 ex which originally had the d16z6 motor...
UPDATE: gonna replace the head gasket tomorrow...if it still overheats...gonna perform a compression test on the head...

what head bolts did you use?
well i had a z6 block and a y8 head, actually a lot of d motor stuff.either one or two of the head bolts would not screw in all the way,z6 bolts had to be used.
From past experience when smoke is coming from radiator like either near the radiator cap or reservior your looking at a head gasket problem. Basically the exhaust in the head is leaking into the coolant passages. Hope this helps.
Re-useing head bolts is not a good idea... Do this ONLY if you are on a realy tight budget. The old bolts will not get a proper torque. Usualy, useing the old ones will work, but if you are having problems like that right after swaping the head, your problem will most likely be the head bolts. Replace them with OEM factory ones or use ARP studs.
I don know about haveing to use the Z6 bolts but that would also make sense
