I am building a y7 block with 9:1 cr pistons 75.50mm. Can u use a oem head gasket? I have a new one sitting in my garage. Or do I need to get a 75.50mm headgasket.

^^Lol.

That question does got me thinking a bit too. I'll let the expert chime in as I'm not sure about this. You might need to get a custom head gasket; since, the bore are bigger than standard OEM HG.

Im no expect on the sohc motors but I can say for sho...

that you can not use the stock HG...The pistons would be slapping the crap out of of the metal rings on the HG itself...

You need one A specific to your bore...

maybe check this one out? just a heads up tho if you use the cometic make sure your deck surface is done correctly for that hg or it will ooze and never really seat...

you do know they make it to exact specs [the HG] ? Just take your old HG and put it over your piston, will it clear? Let us know!! ;]

The pistons should be sitting in the deck.. with that said, its not going to hit the HG. Yes, you can use a stock (OEM) headgasket.

best reply so far. if that doesnt work then your only other option is to get one specific to your bore size (recommended). you dont want a head gasket hanging out into the cylinder for any reason.

thread jacking this for a second... do you need to bore/hone out the .5mm in the cylinder for the new over-sized pistons?

if youre going with an oversize piston then having the cylinders bored is pretty much a given unless you were running a ridiculous tolerance before and enjoyed a little piston slap. when you bore.... you hone.

OMG. People, please. You do know the overbore limit on the D16 is 75.5mm, correct? Thats direct from Honda. Does it mention ANYWHERE in the service manual to use the "Overbore sized headgasket"? Do you even see one available from Honda? This should answer your question right there. Why we are sitting here telling him to see if they fit through the headgasket is just plain rediculous...

Then somoene posts about how the headgasket is made to "Exact specs" and gets credit for the "best post ever"... I love this place. Where else can you come and see so much mislead information splattered around and then a group of equally mislead individuals telling him how great his information is?

I just mic'd a stock D16y8 headgasket I have in the garage. Its 75.55mm. Hows that for "Exact specifications"? Will your 75.5mm pistons work with a stock headgasket now?

You're no expert alright. And for that reason, you shouldn't be posting that you know "for sure" that it won't work when it will. Thats what makes this place such a joke at times.

Yeah I took my Wiseco 75.5mm piston and it fits through my oem head gasket with some play in between. Should answer all questions...
