You're alright. Make sure you change the coolant often to keep it from getting worse.

Maybe you know something I don't, but could you explain how changing the coolant frequently would help that?

Corrosion. Maybe not "frequently", but no later than the recommended intervals.

ok, I'd be more concerned with the head gasket sealing correctly around that area, but if it was running before then go for it.

the car ran before but not very good. it had alot of vacumm leaks and hoses with spits on them. it was under the ownership 2 totally incompetant people. the original head had bent intake valves so my buddy who i bought it from changed the head. the head bolts were def tourqed harder than they should have been and he broke off a cam cap oil feed bolt. i have a head from my first da. the trans is missing 3 bolts so far but might be missing more. uuuggghhh this car is going to make me go grey. is there a speacial kind of head gasket for leak prone motors. something that will crush a little better than an oem hg.

you could spray an OEM headgasket with copper spray before putting it on if you want that "extra" assurance of it sealing

So I put the motor back together with a new headgasket and head bolts. The motor runs perfect! I haven't put any miles on it but it's run for about 30 min total. Just running it to test things like the exhaust and stuff. I haven't noticed any oil around the head gasket or anything but once I get it on the road and drive it for a little bit I will post my results

Could have coated the chipped area with JB weld to reinforce it,

Look like somethin was dropped down on it the way the chip is, possibly the head that was being taken off originally...

he bro i jus bought a 1999 gsr with a new head and its overheats i put new thermostat and flushed it problems got worst with overheating. and than my radiator temp switch was un plugged and has a paper clip on it to bypass it. and finally i took to mechanic and he said its probly head gasket and when they took head off the cylinder wall has a chip so whats my best bet.. should i waste 800 on labor too take it out or should i have him put new gasket thats three layers and use indian glue on the chip. would that prevent overheating
