can someone explain the purpose of the EGR valve?.......
i know it stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, but does this help me run faster or does it hurt me if its not hooked up?.. what is its real purpose?
everywhere i look they say its optional on a JDM p13 ecu (which i have) . and that this ecu wont throw a code for it. but my car is throwing a EGR code. #12 its kind of annoying, but i can live with it... but if i can i would like to take all of that EGR stuff and related components out of my engine bay, i think it looks bad. should i take it all out and plug it all up or actually hook it up and let it do its job? thanks yall...

even with the jdm p13 if you unplug the egr sensor, it will throw a code. you can however block off the egr, keep it plugged in, and the ecu wont care.
but to answer your question, it does hurt performance, and NO you cannot remove all the egr stuff from your engine bay and not get a cel

cool.. thanks man.. so should i just hook up the signal wire and leave it like that.. will that make the light go off? or do i have to hook up the power wire and ground wire too? (do i actually make it functional)
you need to make it so the ecu thinks its functional by plugging in the sensor and the vacuum line. but then put a plate between the egr and where it bolts to the manifold so it actually cannot recirculate the air. the ecu will be happy and so will your motor
You wont gain anything(HP) by removeing your EGR,or plugging it up. The EGR only works when the ECU is in closed loop, and the engine is above 3000RPMs. The EGR valve will never be open, when at Wide Open Throttle, or even 20% throttle.
