1995 Accord LX 2.2 fuel leak top of tank
I have gas dripping down the middle of the tank, coming from the top at the rear of the tank. I checked through the access plate in the trunk (this is the fuel pump - correct? whatever is on top of the tank is about 5 inches in diameter with some bolts holding it down) and see no leak there. Looks like all the lines go into the side of the tank near driver side rear wheel - no fuel dripping here. Are there any lines I am missing toward the top of the tank in the middle which may have leaky hoses or seals. Or have I pretty much narrowed it down to being the tank itself rotted at the top where I can't see. It seems to leak only after I've driven but I think this would indicate either a bad fuel line at the top (I don't know if there is one there) or a leak when it sloshes around in the tank. So a solid answer on this would allow me to isolate one of those two possibilities.
Thanks

Is this the fuel pump access or is it a gauge"

Here's the leak from rear - it is toward the right side coming from top of the tank, can't see up where:

here are the visible connections on the side, is this all or is there something closer to the leak?:

OK I went to the store and looked at haynes. Seems thats not the pump but a gauge sensor. Would a leak in the pump, which is more to the left it seems, be responsible for that drippage on the right side?
screw what haynes says. that item beneath that lid is your pump and meter assy. unless you have 2 pumps? I doubt. One rusty line looks moist, try to trace it back. the rest of components may have taken a beating also. does this happen only when you fill up?
p.s. maybe just drop the tank and be done w/ it. replace what needs to be replaced and rubber lines. Best now before they go to.

no its whenever I drive which is why I believe haynes -it has to be whenever gas is being pumped. i see no fuel lines around that unit in the access hole and i see no gas around it. I saw a picture of a fuel tank in haynes (could have been any year between 90 and 97 true) but there are 2 or 3 items on the top, one being the meter and the other the pump with several lines coming off it outside the tank. Also they had a pic of a meter (again not sure what year) but it looked exactly like this and same location and access cover. So im about positive thats a meter and pump is elsewhere. CRAP I can't drop this tank myself and got 3/4 a tank with nowhere to put the gas.
I'm just wondering, has anyone ever had it been NOT a line/gasket and it was the tank itself? that's what I'm afraid of I just wanna hear someone say 'i've been there' and it was not the tank.

Your right...I underl-looked the photo. The fuel pump is separate then. I suggest driving it to reduce gas content in the tank. I did a ram 1500 tank 1/2 full by myself and a jack, so this is possible. I'd hate to steer you wrong any further. the lines are up there tho.
..is there another access cover?

Drain the tank by drilling a quarter in hole using a CORDLESS drill. Then when empty put a 1/4 inch pop rivet with RTV to seal it up. Thats how we drain tanks around here.
SO... anyone ever shear the mounting bracket which the strap bolts to away from the nut so the nut spins freely along with the bolt? Now I am stuck. Can't get the strap down without cutting it or something but the bolt on the other end is so corroded I don't want to try and get it out. Can't get the bracket to finish tearing apart or for the nut to hold still while I crank on the bolt. Cant get a wrench in around it due to bracket being too close. Any ideas?
okay, let me get some things cleared up for you.
First, under the plate, is infact your sending unit. There is another smaller piece ontop of the tank in the middle, then there is your fuel pump. The fuel pump gasket as well as the others do like to rot out and leak when you have a full tank, and you will be getting gas fumes and the smell of gas. Or, its possible the tank is rotting from the top of the two seams down since honda didn't under coat up there. It happened to mine.
now, as for the bolt, if you're talking about the bolt that holds the front of the strap (towards the front of the car) then the bolt is actually threaded into a tapped out piece of metal. Im not sure where the nut you are seeing is. i can tell you i took down my tank last night and as long as you don't bend the two straps too badly its not hard to do.
