New Si to get K24?
Sounds like a logical progression. The Si has been seeing powerplant upgrades every 4-6 years for the most part, and re-using a K-series to save money on R&D is just like Honda. Cheapskates. Can't wait for 5 more ft/lbs of torque in a few years.
Most of the people on TOV are saying that the K24's bore/stroke would not allow the engine to rev more than 7500rpm, and that Honda have most likely learned their lesson from the EP3 and are not going to do that again.
Well a local shop here in MD has a bored/Stroked K24 its a 2.6 litre I believe and is fully built now with ITB's. I asked the driver what he shifts at and its like 9K if hes going all out.
I'm sure that's true, but that's a heavily modified engine. Keep in mind that Honda couldn't build a 2.4L 8000-rpm screamer and maintain their requirements for reliability. An 8000-rpm 2.0L is easy, though...
I highly doubt that they'd put the basic K24 in there, without boosting it. If anything, the new Si might get some version of the "frankenstein" motor, with a K24 block and better breathing more rev happy head.

But what I think they should do is do what Nissan did with the Skyline and make a high revving small 6 clyinder (2.5 liter). Although this would cost alot, there are so many possiblities in the power. Tuners would love that 1000hp is in reach and could come stock with Turbo and make 250-300 hp while, it being a Honda, still get 30 mpg.
The chassis would have to grow in size to accomdate a small six, look how the J series fills the bay in any of the current civics. As I haven't yet seen a C or J six in a 8th gen yet, I can imagine the space would still be limited. Can Honda move out of the compact class and into the mid size and stay competitive?
True, it's only slightly bigger displacement wise, but the inline 6 in the Skyline (I'm assuming you mean r32-r34 gen skyline) runs perpendicular to the way the engine in our car is. MUCH more room is needed. Just look at how much bigger an S2k's engine bay is than an 8th gen's.
That's called a K23

Take this with a grain of salt, as you should anything on teh intarwebz, but I was at the wedding of the owner of one of our industries top aftermarket retail stores, and I happened to run into one of the heads of a large aftermarket Honda parts manufacturer. We were BSing about general Honda topics and he stated that Honda came to him with the info about a year back that there would be some major changes to the Si chassis in the 9th gen model, specifically an increase in displacement. This seems to line up exactly with the TOV rumor.

Ok people inside Honda I talked to today said that Honda has said nothing about a new civic yet. The only new vehciles* are the odyessy 1 yr times and the accord 2yrs time. The accord coupe will become more sportier and they want to fill the gap that the S2K left.
